Just one week after an action-packed weekend at Rockingham which saw Tom Boardman take two top-ten places and the Independents’ Driver Trophy in race one, the Special Tuning UK team headed for the third round of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship at the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit.
Productive practice sessions resulted in 11th place in qualifying for race one, Tom’s best starting position of the season so far, and had it not been for the appearance of a yellow flag in the last few seconds of the session, he would almost have certainly made the top-ten on the grid. Despite heavy rain and spray making visibility very poor during the race, Tom put in a tremendous drive on the greasy surface to make ground and bring the SEAT Leon home in ninth place after a great mid-race battle with the Vauxhall Vectras of Andrew Jordan and David Pinkney. Another wet start ensured race two was full of incidents and although the Club SEAT car suffered a collapsed wheel bearing right at the start, Tom was undeterred and put in an amazing drive to finish in seventh place, within four seconds of the race winner.
With the top seven positions reversed for the final race, Tom was delighted to find himself on pole position, until a revised result from race two meant that the BMW of Steven Kane was promoted up into first place on the grid and Tom moved down to second, as he was promoted to sixth in the Race 2 results.
