Wales rally GB super 1600 debut for circuit racer
Former BTCC production cup racer Tom Boardman heads to South Wales this weekend for his International Rally debut in the ex-works Special Tuning (UK) Limited Peugeot 206 Super 1600 car.
Tom, aged just 20, from Forton, near Preston, has campaigned a Peugeot 206 in this years' Peugeot Total 206 Super Cup where his Seat Cupra Cup race programme would permit, having made the move to gravel late last year.
Partnered by Alun Cook, the 2003 Kumho National Rally Champion co-driver, Tom relished the challenge of this years Wales Rally GB, " I'm really looking forward to using the Super 1600 car, so far I've only tested the car on gravel and tarmac and never attempted a rally with this amount of mileage, so the challenge will be there for me to meet", said Boardman.
"Last weekend's Park Systems Stages got me back into the gravel after 3 race meetings, it was a tough weekend, but we managed 22nd overall, my best placing on a Kumho National Championship Rally, just finishing seemed an achievement with so many cars retiring, and now I feel ready for the challenge of three days in South Wales", continued the Lancashire driver.
Support for the entry comes from Special Tuning (UK) Limited, Kumho Tyres and Peugeot Sport. "I'm grateful for the tyre support from Kumho, even in the difficult conditions on the Park Systems I had great traction and more importantly no punctures, and the technical support from Peugeot Sport with the car has given me so much confidence".
